About Warhosts

Warhosts is an independent tactical strategy game. It opens in the browser in a few seconds, and the battle is decided by your choices: whom to buy, when to upgrade the castle and where to aim the spell.

Warhosts (Ratoborcy) is a free browser strategy game for computer and phone. Three factions, 24 units, a five-level castle, battles of 10–15 minutes. Play against bots or against real players with a ranking for every faction. Age 12+.

What is Warhosts

Warhosts (“Ratoborcy” in Russian) is a tactical strategy game where two armies meet on a long field. Each side has three lines of defense: the palisade, the wall and the citadel. Whoever destroys the enemy citadel wins.

You do not control each unit. You make the key decisions: whom to buy into the next wave, when to spend gold on a castle upgrade or workshops, where to cast the hero spell. Units fight on their own, so the game can be learned in a single match and mastered over a long time.

The game in numbers

  • Three factions: the Kingdom, the Wilds and the Pale Court.
  • 24 units of five tiers, each with its own ability. Reference: all units.
  • A five-level castle: 250, 550, 1000, 1600 gold for levels 2–5.
  • A wave leaves every 30 seconds, a battle lasts 10–15 minutes.
  • Three bot difficulty levels and 1v1 online battles.
  • Elo rating separately for each faction and for the Random mode, starting at 1000 points.
  • Russian and English, age 12+, free.

Why we build Warhosts this way

  • Decisions matter more than finger speed. There is no micro-management: the winner counts gold better, picks counters and upgrades the castle in time.
  • Fair online play. The battle is computed identically for both players and on the server: results cannot be forged and everyone sees the same picture.
  • No pay-to-win. Army strength depends only on your decisions in battle.
  • Short matches. A battle fits into a break: 10–15 minutes from the first wave to the citadel.
  • One style. Every faction is drawn as collectible miniatures on bases: a unit reads as well on a phone screen as on a monitor.

How the game works technically

The game is written with Phaser 3 (HTML5, Canvas), so it runs without installation in any modern browser. The battle itself is a deterministic simulation: the same commands always produce the same result. That is why online play uses a lockstep scheme: the server sends both players' commands to everyone, each client and the server simulate the battle independently and checksums reveal any divergence. Only the server awards rating.

Development
